To Cast the Tarot


I would invite the querent to settle the mind while holding the set in his/her hands. Then, extend the hands over a large flat surface (heavy cloth on a table top will do) at 12” to 18” for a moment; and drop them. Remove all the pieces that land "face down". This leaves only those pieces that apply to the reading and are "facing you".




Observe how they fall; un-focus the eyes, not settling on any one piece and allow the imagination to decipher the pattern. Rather akin to reading tea leaves. After the image settles, one then interprets the image by describing its parts.

To find interpretation through the “random” pattern of a throw is liberating, free of the standard layout of cards. When viewing the individual pieces and their relationships, here are a few things to look for.
